Enhancing partner support for smoking cessation appears not to be effective.
A Cochrane review included 13 studies with over 2000 subjects. The RR for self-reported abstinence at 6–9 months was 0.99 (95% CI 0.84 to 1.15), and at 12 months it was 1.04 (95% CI 0.87 to 1.24). Of the 8 studies that measured partner support at follow-up, only two studies reported significant increase in partner support in the intervention groups.
Comment: The quality of evidence is downgraded by study limitations.
