Daily intermittent high-pressure compression may be more effective than low-pressure compression in treating symptoms of postphlebitic syndrome.
A Cochrane review (abstract , review ) included 2 studies with a total of 50 patients. In a small cross-over study, 12 of the 15 patients had the perception of important difference in favour of high pressure (between 40 and 50 mmHg) over low pressure (15 mmHg) intermittent compression (twice daily for 20 minutes).
Comment: The quality of evidence is downgraded by imprecise results (limited study size for each comparison) and by limitations in study quality (inadequate follow up).
