Double intrauterine insemination in stimulated cycles appears to result in higher pregnancy rate compared to single intrauterine insemination in the treatment of subfertile couples with husband semen.
A Cochrane review included 6 studies with a total of 1 785 women. The studies compared single versus double intrauterine insemination in stimulated cycles in subfertile couples. Pregnancy rate per couple showed a significant effect of using double insemination (Peto OR 1.8, 95% CI 1.4 to 2.4; 6 studies, n=1754). There were no data for the main outcome measure of live birth per couple or ongoing pregnancy rates, nor comparative data for adverse events.
Comment: The quality of evidence is downgraded by study quality (unclear allocation concealment and inadequate intention-to-treat adherence).
