Botryomycosis is a very uncommon chronic bacterial infection, predominantly caused by Staphylococcus aureus. The skin infection is dermal-subcutaneous, the symptoms are mild and the advancing border may be barely visible. The host - bacterial relationship is unique: e.g. even a biopsy wound heals without antibiotics, although the bottom of the wound grows S. aureus +++.
