Nummular eczema, or discoid eczema, on the back of the hand. The eczematous patch is clearly defined and reddened, often containing small papules or vesicles especially along the edges. It starts to develop from a tiny little papule. The surface may be crusty or dry and peeling. Itching may be completely absent. The scales on a psoriatic patch form a more compact, waxy ”cake”. Fungal cultivation may be appropriate. In young patients, nummular eczema is almost always a form of atopic rash, whereas in adults the aetiology usually remains unsolved.
