Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) is a subform of lupus erythematosus. The skin eruption is indurated, well circumscribed, patchy or map-like; the central area is often scaly and lighter than the surroundings. Typical locations include upper back, chest and upper arms. Exposure to UV radiation makes the eruption worse. Biopsy and positive anti-SSA and anti-SSB antibodies confirm the diagnosis.
