The assessment of basic lipid profile is effective in determining the cardiovascular disease risk of a patient.
A technology assessment report on biochemical markers of cardiovascular disease risk was abstracted in the Health Technology Assessment Database . The basic lipid profile (high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, and triglycerides) provides a useful indication of cardiovascular disease risk and serves as a guide for statin therapy in a primary prevention context.
