Seborrhoeic keratosis (seborrhoeic wart) is histologically defined as papilloma of the epidermis. The surface is greasy, wart-like and crumbling. The colour varies from skin colour to almost black. The lesions may be removed by curettage (video ) to the skin level or by liquid nitrogen cryotherapy if the warts are itching or otherwise bothersome. Excision is unnecessary unless there is a need to exclude a pigmented basalioma or nodular melanoma.
