A 1.5-year-old boy had a history of one earlier wheezing episode associated with a respiratory infection. This time symptoms of infection had started 2 days before consultation, and dyspnea developed during the night. In the morning marked intercostal retraction, increased respiratory rate (58/min) and both inspiratory and expiratory rales were observed. The obstruction was classified as severe , and the child received inhaled salbutamol and peroral prednisolone 2 mg/kg. After salbutamol inhalation the symptoms improved. The inhalation was repeated twice during the same day. The next day the symptoms had almost disappeared.
