Typical appearance of an infant with atopic dermatitis. The facial skin is red and scaly (crusta lactea). Especially in widespread cases, skin testing (or determination of serum antibodies) to detect food allergy is strongly recommended. Allergy to milk, egg or wheat is not uncommon, at least in Nordic countries.
