Folliculitis in the beard region. Folliculitis in the beard region. Clusters of pustules are seen around the mouth, and reddened deeper nodules are found in the cheeks and in the neck as the infection has spread to the surroundings of the hair follicles. Oozing and crusty patches like in impetigo are also seen. Dermatophytes may also cause folliculitis: this would be unilateral, more clearly demarcated pustular dermatitis. If concomitant eczema is present, it is advisable to include topical corticosteroid cream in the treatment.
