A plantar "dry-type" dermatophyte (T. rubrum) infection is often unilateral. The right foot shows typical moderate hyperkeratosis and scaling. The patient is often unaware of this affection and the consequent onychomycosis is the reason for visiting the doctor. Plantar dermatophyte infection needs oral antifungal medication.
