Skin changes in the fingers and toes associated with a systemic connective tissue disease. Erythematous, often painful maculae appear in the distal phalanges especially in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The maculae may become thickened and sometimes even ulcerate. The skin symptoms are probably caused by vasculitis.
