Pityriasis rosea on the trunk. The herald patch, a larger oval patch is followed some 2 weeks later by smaller oval, exanthematous lesions, which tend to be arranged along the ribs. The most distal parts of the extremities are spared, as is the frontal part of the face. Mild to moderate itching is common. The disease is self-limiting and therapy does not affect its natural course. There is some evidence that the causative agent is Herpesvirus type 7.
