A radiologically diagnosed osteoarthritis may be 14 times more common in patients who have undergone meniscectomy than in matched controls.

Roos et al examined knee radiographs of 123 patients who had undergone open meniscectomy 21 years earlier. There were more degerative changes as compared to matched controls.
