This sample contains only a short section of successful recording. This child was referred for investigation of a murmur. There were no symptoms suggesting heart defect. A third-degree systolic murmur was found in the aortic area and femoral pulses were weak. Echocardiography showed tight aortic coarctation. The murmur is heard very clearly from the back. In the beginning breathing covers the auscultation finding. At the site of coarctation, turbulent flow is heard also on diastole, the murmur is heard also during diastole as more quiet and low-pitched. The 650-Hz frequency seen on the spectrogram contour during systole also matches tight coarctation. After investigation this child underwent correction of coarctation. Age 1.1 years, height 74.0 cm, weight 9.0 kg. Area of auscultation: back.
