A 70-year-old man had been prescribed tamsulosin for symptoms of prostatic hyperplasia 4 years ago. The symptoms had gradually increased, and he had to void 4–5 times every night. However, the IPSS score was only 16. The prostate was round-shaped and very large (estimated volume 0.6×5.9×6.3×6.1 = 136 ml). One week later urinary retention developed, and open prostatectomy was subsequently performed.
