Self-management education programmes, based on increasing understanding through psychosocial methods, may improve knowledge about epilepsy, certain behavioural outcomes, and reduce seizure frequency.
A Cochrane review [withdrawn from publication] included 2 studies with a total of 483 subjects. Both trials showed improvements in seizure frequency and other outcomes, such as knowledge. However, we were not able to estimate a summary effect for seizure frequency due to a lack of data.
Comment: The quality of evidence is downgraded by study quality (unclear allocation concealment and by imprecise results) few studied patients.
