This profuse exanthematous eruption in an adolescent girl is Pityriasis rosea. The disease begins with a 2 - 4-cm herald patch, followed after 10 - 14 days by a more widespread eruption of slightly scaling oval patches. Only the skin of face and distal extremities are saved. The disease is possibly caused by herpesvirus 7, and complete cure occurs spontaneously in 3 - 8 weeks. There is no teratogenicity risk in this infection. Recurrence seems to be most exceptional.
