Pityriasis lichenoides et varioliformis acuta (PLEVA, Mucha-Habermann disease) is a skin eruption of unknown aetiology, probably triggered by some infection. Lesions of different ages are visible on the skin. A fresh papule may be haemorrhagic and ulcerative, even vesicular. Gradually the papules turn lighter and become scaly and a scar is left at the site. Biopsy shows vasculitis. There are no systemic symptoms, which differentiates the condition from e.g. varicella. The eruption will heal spontaneously within some weeks and becomes only seldom chronic.
