Cochrane reviews
- Diazepam alone may be more effective in treating tetanus than combination of phenobarbitone and chlorpromazine, but the evidence is too weak to support change in current clinical practice .
- Vaccinating childbearing women against tetanus appears to decrease incidence of tetanus in newborn babies, but possible adverse effects have not been assessed .
- Intravenous vitamin C seems to reduce death rates in people with tetanus, but the results are based on a single poor quality and poorly reported controlled trial. There are no evaluations of vitamin C as a prevention for tetanus .
