- There is insufficient evidence from randomised controlled trials regarding the use of oxcarbazepine in maintenance phase of bipolar illness, either in monotherapy or as an adjunctive treatment .
- Omega-3 fatty acids might possibly be effective as an adjunctive treatment for depressive but not manic symptoms in bipolar disorder, but the evidence is insufficient .
- Olanzapine may prevent further mood episodes in patients who have responded to olanzapine during an index manic or mixed episode and who have not previously had a satisfactory response to lithium or valproate .
- Oxcarbazepine might possibly have similar efficacy to more accepted medications for acute affective episodes in bipolar disorder, although the evidence is insufficient .
- Haloperidol appears to be an effective treatment for acute mania .
