Cochrane reviews

  • There is insufficient evidence on the systemic interventions for recurrent aphthous stomatitis .
  • Vitamin A, retinoids, and beta carotene may be effective for the clinical resolution of leukoplakia lesions, but relapses are common, and there is no evidence of effective conservative treatment in preventing malignant transformation .
  • Cyclosporin may reduce pain and clinical signs of oral lichen planus. There is no evidence that steroids are more effective than placebo or that one steroid is more effective than another in reducing pain in symptomatic OLP .
