Cochrane reviews

  • There is insufficient evidence to assess the effectiveness of steroids in tuberculous pleural effusion . Relapse rates are slightly higher in antituberculous regimens lasting less than six months compared to longer regimens .
  • Rifabutin- and rifampicin-containing regimens appear not to differ in terms of efficacy in the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis .
  • The provision of free food, high-energy nutritional products or micronutrient supplementation for people being treated for active tuberculosis may have no effect on the treatment outcome . Isoniazid prophylaxis appears to reduce tuberculosis incidence and mortality in HIV-infected children living in areas of high TB prevalence and not receiving antiretroviral therapy .
