Cochrane reviews

  • Offering specific treatment for gestational diabetes (GDM) may be associated with better baby and mother outcomes, but there is lack of evidence on the best mode of treatment for GDM and on long-term mother and baby outcomes .
  • Continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion is probably not superior to multiple daily injections for pregnant women with diabetes .

Other evidence summaries

  • Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors given in late pregnancy seem to have subtle adverse effects on the newborn, but there is insufficient evidence from high-quality trials .
  • Some selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors may increase the risks for some specific defects, but the specific defects implicated are rare and the absolute risks are small .
