  • Melatonin is effective in preventing or reducing jet lag, and occasional short-term use appears to be safe .

  • Sedative hypnotics in people aged > 60 years may increase sleep time by 25 min and reduce the number of night time awakenings by one third in short-term use, but the number needed to harm by any adverse event may be as low as 6 .
