Cochrane reviews
- Polyethylene glycol (PEG) preparations may be superior to placebo, lactulose and milk of magnesia for childhood constipation .
- Polyethylene glycol appears to be more effective than lactulose for chronic constipation in both adults and children .
- Behavioural interventions when used together with laxative therapy may improve continence in children with non-organic faecal incontinence and constipation. Biofeedback does not add any long-term benefit .
