Mediacal treatment with misoprostol is effective for incomplete miscarriage in first trimester of pregnancy, however unplanned surgical curettage occurs more often than after surgical management .
Vaginal misoprostol is as effective as other prostaglandin preparations in the termination of second and third trimester of pregnancy for women with a fetal anomaly or fetal death and more effective than oral misoprostol .- A combination of mifepristone and misoprostol for abortion in early pregnancy is safe and effective. Misoprostol vaginally is more effective than orally. Mifepristone and methotrexate appear to have similar efficacy with misoprostol, while protection against ectopic pregnancy may be better with methotrexate .
- Routine councelling after a miscarriage may not be effective for improving psychological well being .
