There is no evidence to suggest that either oral deferiprone or subcutaneous infusion of desferrioxamine (DFO) is more clinically efficacious to prevent end organ damage in transfusion-dependent thalassaemia .- Iron chelation with desferrioxamine appears to be beneficial in people with transfusion-dependent thalassaemia but the optimal schedule remains uncertain .
